Blackburn's plans to sign American defender George John have hit the buffers just a day before the close of the transfer window.

Boss Steve Kean has been chasing the 24-year-old for the last few weeks and looked likely to get his man after he publicly stated he'd like a move to the Premier League. But now his club FC Dallas has announced that any potential deal is off after the player and Rovers failed to reach a deal.Dallas president and chief executive Doug Quinn told the Lancashire Telegraph: "Despite mutual interest, Blackburn Rovers and George John have decided not to enter into a contract.

"Blackburn had significant interest in acquiring George; however, for the time being, they decided not to finalise the deal. "We are excited to have a player of George's calibre back at FC Dallas."Kean is desperate to bring new faces to Ewood Park with speculation regarding his future at the club already up for discussion after a disastrous start to the season. Rovers are in 19th place in the Premier League having lost each of their opening three games.
