Rovers snap up SA star on a free

The 25-year-old can play across the midfield and becomes Rovers boss Sam Allardyce's first signing of the summer. He is currently training with the South African squad ahead of the Confederations Cup, but was given permission to leave the camp in order to sign his Rovers contract. The former FC Copenhagen midfielder joins compatriot Benni McCarthy at Ewood Park, although another South African - Aaron Mokoena - has left the club to join Portsmouth. Van Heerden fits the profile of player Allardyce is looking to add to his squad over the summer, with the Rovers boss keen to have a younger, more vibrant look to his team next season.
