Rovers skipper out of finale

Blackburn Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen will miss the club's final game of the season against West Brom on Sunday. Nelsen suffered a calf injury during Rovers' 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday and was replaced just before half-time at Stamford Bridge. The centre-half has missed just two Premier League games all season, however he will be sidelined for West Brom's visit to Ewood Park. Sam Allardyce confirmed the New Zealander's injury, but expects on-loan defender Gael Givet to be fit for the season's finale. "I think Givet will be okay, but Ryan will definitely be out," said Allardyce. "Ryan pulled a calf whereas Givet is more tightness rather than a tear." Meanwhile, Nelsen is confident that Allardyce can make the team even tougher to beat next season after the Rovers boss guided the club to safety. Nelsen said in the Lancashire Telegraph: "When we have done really well in the league, finishing sixth or seventh, we have got points from the big four and that has been the difference between coming mid-table or pushing for Europe and we haven't done it. "It would be nice to return to that sort of form and I can imagine once we have stayed up that will be remedied very quickly in the summer. "We will be looking forward to that. We have done what we have had to do to this season and that is beat the teams around us. "Sam Allardyce will get us even harder to beat though for next season and I think we will be a different proposition against teams like Chelsea."
