Blackburn defender Ryan Nelsen has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. The New Zealand international came off during Saturday's draw at Birmingham and underwent surgery on Monday. [LNB]"If the surgeon had looked at his knee in January he'd probably have done the same operation," said boss Steve Kean. [LNB]"So with good medical back-up we've managed to get him on the pitch more times than we thought we would have. He just has to rest for a month." [LNB]The operation cleared out floating debris in his knee, which Kean said had been causing Nelsen a lot of pain. [LNB]The manager admitted Nelsen's absence would be a big loss, but on the plus side they Rovers can call on fit-again Phil Jones as a replacement. [LNB]"Fortunately for us we lose him just as Phil is back fully fit," Kean told the club website. [LNB]"He's slotted back in there and looked like he's never been away from central defence which is fantastic for us but it's unfortunate that we lose Nelly."
