Robbie Savage admits his biggest regret was not signing for Everton as he contemplates hanging up his boots at the end of the forthcoming season.   [LNB]The 35-year-old midfielder will quit the game and further develop a flourishing media career if not offered a new contract by Derby next summer.   [LNB]He will present Radio Five Live's '606' show throughout the new campaign as he approaches the end of a sometimes controversial and colourful career.   [LNB] Looking back: Savage (left) wishes he had signed for Moyes at Everton[LNB]But Savage wishes he had pressed home the opportunity to play for David Moyes side when the chance came up during his spell at Birmingham.   [LNB]Savage said: 'There are a few things I regret in my career. I regret the way it ended with Steve Bruce at Birmingham because to be playing for him was great.   [LNB]'My time at Birmingham was probably the most successful of my career.   [LNB]'I know I played for Blackburn in Europe but, in terms of having everything, at Birmingham it was incredible.   [LNB]'I regret getting Justin Edinburgh sent off in the Leicester versus Tottenham League Cup final in 1999. [LNB]The one that got away: Toffees boss Moyes[LNB]'But the biggest regret of my career was not signing for Everton. I had a great opportunity to do that and I wish I had pushed that a bit harder.'[LNB]Savage added: 'I was at the World Cup this summer and I saw David Moyes and I said "why didn't you sign me?"   [LNB]'And he said "we couldn't afford you in the end" tongue in cheek. But he put two or three bids in for me and one was accepted by Birmingham but it got turned down at the last minute for some reason and I went to Blackburn instead.'[LNB]Savage admits he does not want to play in the lower leagues and will quit if not offered a new deal by Nigel Clough.   [LNB]He said: 'Will this be my last season? It all depends on how I perform this season. I want Derby to be my last club and I want to finish on a high.   [LNB]'I don't really want to go down the leagues and get kicked all over the place by young, up-and-coming players.  [LNB] 'If I don't get another contract at Derby after this season, that will probably be it but my aim is to earn a new contract here. If I don't it could possibly well be the end.'[LNB] Sorry if I cheated you, Birmingham, says Savage, as he admits strike actionSign up to our FREE Fantasy Football game - with £40,000 in prize money up for grabsEverton 2 Everton 0: Beckford shines as Toffees' namesakes come unstuckBirmingham up against West Bromwich in race to sign £5m AZ Alkmaar striker Moussa DembeleEVERTON FC
