Rigters earns Southend chance

Southend are set to offer Blackburn Rovers striker Maceo Rigters the chance to impress in a pre-season friendly against Ipswich on Wednesday. Shrimpers manager Steve Tilson is looking for attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season as veteran forward Dougie Freedman is injured. Southend will therefore assess Rigters' attributes in their meeting with Ipswich as Blackburn are reportedly prepared to part with the forward. The 25-year-old has struggled for first-team football at Ewood Park since moving to England from NAC Breda in 2007. In his two years with Rovers, Rigters has made only seven appearances for the Premier League club and has spent time on loan with Barnsley and Norwich.
