Barton returned to training with Newcastle on Wednesday for the first time since being banished by Alan Shearer, when he was exiled by the interim manager in the wake of a dressing-room disagreement following his red card in the defeat at Liverpool in May. But St James' Park team-mate David Edgar has left the relegated club to join newly promoted Burnley. Edgar has signed a four-year deal after seeing out his contract at Newcastle. Edgar made just 23 appearances for Newcastle, who will be entitled to a compensation fee because he is under 24. Allardyce, meanwhile, is ready to turn his attention to the overseas market. Blackburn chairman John Williams has confirmed their interest in Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo. CANA COMING TO CAPITAL Reports in France claim Arsenal are set to beat Tottenham for the £15 million capture of Marseille midfielder Lorik Cana. Hamburg are the only club to have made a concrete bid for the Albanian international, but Spurs could be more successful in an attempt to lure Atletico Madrid captain Maxi Rodriguez to the Premier League. The Argentine internatonal, 28, would cost between £10 million and £12 million. LETO LEAVES LIVERPOOL Sebastian Leto, the Liverpool winger, has left Anfield to join Greek side Panathinaikos -- having spent last season on loan at rivals Olympiakos. Leto struggled to make an impact at Liverpool following his arrival in the summer of 2007, but will cost the Greek club £3.5 million. Bolton have confirmed their signing of Portsmouth midfielder Sean Davis on a free transfer while Andrew Surman has completed his £1 million move from financially-troubled Southampton to Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers. STOKES STAYING AT SUNDERLAND Sunderland have told Hibs they have no intention of allowing striker Anthony Stokes to leave the club on loan. The Irishman has been heavily linked with a year-long loan to Scotland, having failed to ever establish himself at the Stadium of Light. OTHER DEALS: Stephen Gleeson (Wolves to MK Dons), Paul Morgan (Bury to Macclesfield), Brendan Moloney (Nottm Fst to Notts Co, six month loan).
