Back in the game: Ince takes the reins at Notts County[LNB]Paul Ince has made a return to football as the new manager of Notts County.[LNB]The former Blackburn boss succeeds Craig Short as the new boss at Meadow Lane after his predecessor lasted less than five months in the post. [LNB]Ince, who was 43 last week, becomes the club's sixth manager in just over 12 months after agreeing a three-and-a-half-year deal.[LNB]Notts Chairman Ray Trew said: 'Paul has a wealth of experience as a player and a solid track record as a manager in the Football League, making him the obvious choice for me when we began our search for a new manager.[LNB]'There were a number of high calibre applications for the position and it was encouraging to see just how attractive a proposition managing Notts County remains to some very prestigious names in the world of football management.[LNB]'However, when we met Paul it quickly became clear that he was the ideal candidate, he'd done his homework, had some big ideas and was ready to get stuck in straightaway.'[LNB]Former Millwall midfielder Alex Rae will join Ince as his assistant in the next week.[LNB]Ince left MK Dons after a row over funding six months ago and has been out of work since then before being offered the chance to manage the world's oldest professional club.[LNB]Before leaving MK Dons, the former England skipper had a disastrous spell in charge at Blackburn but was sacked after just six months after guiding the Premier League club to just three wins in 17 League games. [LNB]Ince left the Lancashire outfit second bottom of the League.[LNB]After an illustrious playing career at no fewer than eight different clubs, including West Ham, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Liverpool, Ince, who also represented England 53 times, began his coaching career at Swindon Town. [LNB]But the Ilford-born midfielder, who was player-coach, left the County Ground as he felt he could not continue his playing duties as well as complete his coaching badges.[LNB]Two months later, Ince was appointed manager of Macclesfield Town and promptly led them away from the League Two relegation zone. [LNB]He then moved to MK Dons, in his first spell at the club, and secured their return to League One before he became the first black manager in England's top division when taking over at Blackburn in June 2008.  [LNB] Notts County sack Short after slow start to the season at Meadow LaneTHE 2010/11 managerial merry-go-round: Craig Short axed by Notts County to become 11th casualty of the campaign[LNB]  Explore more:People: Paul Ince, Alex Rae Places: Liverpool, United Kingdom Organisations: Football League
