No Rovers return for Spurs outcast Bentley as Redknapp stays ruthless

This should have been the day when David Bentley returned to Blackburn Rovers to show just why Tottenham paid £15million for him in the summer. But as Spurs boss Harry Redknapp frankly revealed yesterday, there is just no place for him - whichever system is played. Wide right, wide left or off the front man, Redknapp has better options. And the only sensible outcome seems to be that the former England international will be sold at the end of the season to release funds for Redknapp to strengthen his squad with another couple of signings. To be fair to Redknapp, he did not have a bad word to say about the 24-year-old former Arsenal prodigy, who blossomed as a future England star during two-and-a-half years at Blackburn. 'I see him (Bentley) as basically a right-sided player,' said Redknapp. 'Tottenham had Aaron Lennon and brought in David so ended up with two right wingers and Aaron can play both sides.' Redknapp added: 'I'm sure David would like to go back to Blackburn and play - but I can't pick the team on sentiment. I have to pick a team I feel will get a result.'
