New Rovers on the mend

Blackburn boss Steve Kean could hand debuts to two of his lesser-known January signings in the coming weeks. While the arrivals of Roque Santa Cruz and Jermaine Jones attracted most of the attention during the transfer window, two other players slipped in quietly at Ewood Park. Mauro Formica is a 22-year-old midfield playmaker from Argentina previously compared to "a young Gabriel Batistuta" by Kean, while Ruben Rochina, 19, is a Spanish forward snapped up from Barcelona. Kean told the club's website: "They have settled well and they had a good performance in the reserves against Everton. "This is almost like the end phase of a pre-season programme they have been on, six weeks of building up their intensity. "We have really pushed them hard. It's about preparing them for a different type of football."
