Nelsen out of Confederations Cup
Nelsen limped out of Blackburn's penultimate Premier League match against Chelsea on Saturday and scans have since revealed a muscle tear which rules the 31-year-old out for up to six weeks.
The New Zealand skipper will sit out Blackburn's final match because of the problem and now also misses the summer tournament which New Zealand take part in as Oceania's best side.
In a statement to the media in his homeland, Nelsen said: "I was really looking forward to playing.
"The Confederations Cup is great preparation for the World Cup play-off and I'm just gutted I won't be there now."
