Moyes delighted by Ewood success

Everton boss David Moyes could not hide his delight at his side's performance in their 3-2 win over Blackburn at Ewood Park on Saturday.[LNB] Yakubu scored with his first touch within seconds of coming on in the 78th minute to put his side 2-1 up and he then laid on the last-minute cross for Tim Cahill's winner.[LNB]Mikel Arteta's fourth-minute penalty had put the visitors ahead but Rovers launched a spirited fightback which saw Steven Nzonzi's power home a 30-yard drive midway through the second half.[LNB]Jason Roberts' equally-impressive strike levelled things up at 2-2 two minutes after Yakubu's goal but the Everton striker had the final say by laying on the winner.[LNB]Moyes did not want to single out Yakubu for all the praise, though.[LNB]"All about the subs? I thought it was all about the players before that," said the Scot.[LNB]"I thought we played some really outstanding football and the first 20 minutes I thought it was scintillating how we played.[LNB]"I thought Arteta was on a different planet today. He was magnificent.[LNB]"I hardly knew how to change it our play had been so good but Yak scores with his first touch and makes the second one.[LNB]"It was great when Yak came on because that is what he does, he scores goals.[LNB]"I was nearly losing the will when they got the second goal back because we'd played some really good stuff and I thought we weren't going to get anything out of it."[LNB]Arteta was a major influence on the game but could easily have been sent off in the 20th minute for poking a finger in Morten Gamst Pedersen's eye after reacting angrily to a tackle.[LNB]Referee Andre Marriner let him off with a booking but Moyes admitted he probably should have been dismissed.[LNB]"I've had a word with Mikel and told him he can't do that," he added.[LNB]"He's not that type of boy but I think, after his injuries, he had quite bad tackle just before that and then that one as well."[LNB]Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce blamed Marriner's lack of experience for failing to apply the rules properly but said Arteta not being sent off was no excuse for not getting something out of the game.[LNB]"He has poked him in the eye, it is clear and plain for everyone to see," said the Rovers boss.[LNB]"The rules are clear - you can't mess with anyone's face and that is pretty dangerous. It is a red card.[LNB]"Morten gets booked as well and that was a bizarre situation. That is young referees for you, he struggled to cope with some decisions today.[LNB]"But that was a not why we lost. For once our defending let us down."[LNB]Allardyce was disappointed that despite two great strikes by Nzonzi and Roberts they failed to take anything from the game.[LNB]"We knew it was going to be very difficult because we know Everton are a very good team and the way they started that was the case," he added.[LNB]"For us to be sloppy defensively was very unlike us as that is usually the platform for us to build results on and today it has let us down.[LNB]"Lo and behold we score two of our best goals of the season and they are wasted. When you score goals like that you have to make sure you take something out of the game and our defending has let us down.[LNB]"It is a great shame our long-standing home record has been ended by a defeat (they were last beaten at Ewood in mid-December).[LNB]"Although it is only three home defeats this season, but we shouldn't have lost."
