Mokoena's a strong signing - Benjani

South Africa skipper Mokoena claimed in May that he had agreed a three-year deal with Pompey, but the Fratton Park outfit have not announced his capture so far this summer. The 28-year-old could be the subject of a work permit wrangle - he is joining on a free transfer and the application has to be made anew. In any case, Zimbabwe international Benjani - linked with both Pompey and Blackburn in recent days - expects Mokoena to prove his worth in the Premier League in the build-up to captaining the hosts at World Cup 2010. Benjani said: "He is a good friend of mine. He is already a Portsmouth player. I have spoken to him and he has told me he has signed. "He's a good player and he is the South Africa captain. He's strong and a tough character. "I'm sure he is going to be a good player for Portsmouth." Mokoena only made nine starts and nine substitute appearances for Rovers in the league last season, although he did start seven cup-ties and scored in the FA Cup fourth-round replay at home to Sunderland on February 4.
