The Georgia international is out of favour at Ewood Park and has been told by manager Sam Allardyce he can leave on loan after failing to seal a permanent move before transfer deadline slammed shut. Boro have opened talks with Rovers to take on Khizanishvili's bumper Premier League wages after pulling out of a move for Preston defender Sean St Ledger. Southgate is eager to replace the departed Robert Huth, who left for Stoke City, and also failed with a bid for Sheffield United centre-back Matt Kilgallon. Rovers are under pressure to slash their wage bill and Khizanishvili, who still has two years on his contract, can leave in an attempt to get him off the payroll.
