lackburn 2 Bolton 2: Last-gasp McCarthy saves Allardyce

Sam Allardyce almost engineered one of the comebacks of his managerial career in a rollercoaster derby against his former club Bolton which left the crowd gasping at a dramatic finish. [LNB]Blackburn's manager could only watch in silent anger at a first half which saw Matt Taylor and Kevin Davies - the striker whose career he resurrected at the Reebok Stadium - give the visitors a deserved two-goal lead. [LNB]But such was Rovers' second-half improvement that Bolton had goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen - and perhaps the leniency of referee Mike Dean - to thank for rescuing a precious Barclays Premier League point. [LNB][LNB] Villian to hero: Striker Benny McCarthy celebrates after levelling for Blackburn[LNB]The introduction of Roque Santa Cruz from the bench had a galvanising effect and the £18million Manchester City target was hauled down by Jaaskelainen in the penalty area after Stephen Warnock had already pulled a goal back. [LNB]Some referees might have reached for the red card, but Mr Dean settled for yellow and the Finland goalkeeper then redeemed himself by saving Benni McCarthy's spot kick and prevailing in the subsequent scramble. Mike obviously deemed it not to be a goalscoring opportunity but I can't agree with it. [LNB]On target: Kevin Davies turns Christopher Samba[LNB] 'It's two points lost in the end and who'd have thought at half time I'd be saying that? The players came up with a tremendous fightback. They showed character and commitment first and then the quality. [LNB]'But for the penalty miss and then hitting the post, it would have been an important victory. A moral victory, maybe.' [LNB]McCarthy was not to be denied and, when Chris Samba directed a careful header for striker Jason Roberts to pull the ball back, the South Africa star made no mistake from five yards. [LNB]With the 25,000 crowd in uproar and Rovers fans urging their team on, skipper Ryan Nelsen planted a header against Jaaskelainen's post to leave Blackburn inches away from a third win in four matches. [LNB]The Ewood faithful had little to shout about in a first half which saw Bolton make a mockery of Blackburn's defence, and only 14 minutes had elapsed before they were breached. [LNB]Ariza Makukula's cross found Taylor at the far post and he directed the ball beyond Paul Robinson despite Andre Ooijer's desperate lunge. It got worse 20 minutes later as Davies scored after Robinson's brilliant parry from his first effort.[LNB] Map of Europe redrawn as Derbyshire is moved from Blackburn to Athens[LNB]Blackburn boss Allardyce gets mad at Gartside's slur over his Bolton record[LNB]BLACKBURN FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE WEB[LNB]Bolton in talks over £12m move for Sporting star Miguel Veloso[LNB]Davies can make his Mark on Bolton as Megson gets his man[LNB]BOLTON FC NEWS FROM ACROSS THE WEB[LNB][LNB] [LNB]
