Kean hits back at Hill comments

Steve Kean has refuted claims by Barnsley boss Keith Hill that Premier League parachute payments give Blackburn an unfair advantage.

Kean's men came from behind to beat Barnsley 2-1 thanks in part to £8million summer signing Jordan Rhodes' third goal in as many matches.

Hill said: "The game was won by £8million (the fee paid for Rhodes). It is an unfair advantage that Blackburn get parachute money. You get rewarded for getting relegated. Does it happen to any other country in the world? It absolutely amazes me."

But Kean does not share the former Rovers player's stance, telling the Lancashire Telegraph: "I disagree with that because last year we were in a position where there were a lot of players leaving the club. "We're in a different division but we're able to use the money that over the years we've earned by staying in the Premier League so long. "It's easy to take that parachute money and not spend it but we decided to reinvest back into the club and bought a very expensive player but in Jordan Rhodes that will prove to be a very astute purchase."
