Irvine cools Lonergan talk

Preston North End boss Alan Irvine has played down rumours linking Andy Lonergan with a move away from Deepdale. Reports have claimed that Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United are both weighing up summer bids for the goalkeeper. The Lilywhites' play-off semi-final defeat to Sheffield United has led to rumours that Lonergan could be sold in the summer. However, Irvine insists there has been no interest in the keeper and is hoping the 25-year-old stays with the Championship club. "That's news to me," Irvine told the Evening Post. "I haven't had a phone call from anyone and I think I would have known if there was anything like that going on. "There are always going to be newspaper stories like this and there is nothing we can do about it. "But I can assure you we haven't heard a word from any club. And I'll be happy if it stays that way."
