Hayes hits a brace to rock Rovers

Paul Hayes struck twice on his debut as Preston North End stunned Blackburn Rovers with a 3-0 win at Deepdale on Tuesday night.

North End opened the scoring when Hayes headed home Callum Davidson's cross after 19 minutes.

The summer signing from Scunthorpe continued to trouble the visiting defence and doubled his tally on the stroke of half-time when he got on the end of Keith Treacy's free-kick to head home.

Chris Brown put the result beyond doubt with a 56th-minute penalty following an incident in the box between Michel Salgado and Sean St Ledger.
