HATCHET MAN: Spare Stoke but relegate the rest of the bottom eight - they are all complete and utter

05 May 2009 11:52
A set of freak results or a fear epidemic are the most common excusesfor the  Premier League's bottom eight failing to pick up a singlepoint between them in  the last round of results.[LNB]But what about a complete lack of courage? West Bromwich, Middlesbrough,  Newcastle, Hull, Sunderland, Blackburn, Portsmouth andStoke ought to be  ashamed.[LNB]Staring sporting catastrophe in the face was not enough for any of them to rise to the challenge. They all wilted.[LNB] [LNB]Points make prizes: But in Joey Barton, Alan Shearer and Newcastle's case, there aren't too many of either to be had[LNB]There have been plenty of moments this season which have pointed tothe  fantastic quality of the League, but this set of results is notone of them.[LNB]Blackburn on 37 points already think they are safe, as Sam Allardyce demonstrated with his smug 'how I relieve the pressure' on players discussion with Richard Keys on Sky on Sunday afternoon despite anotherdefeat  for his all too relaxed side.[LNB]Last season 36 points was enough and you have to go back to 2003 for aseason  when more than 40 points were needed to stay up, which doesn'tsay much for the  quality at the bottom of the League.[LNB]   More from Hatchet Man... HATCHET MAN: Bowyer, Carr and Phillips ... all old men who've had their day and will only bring Birmingham straight back down 05/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Rooney and Evra have their (yellow) cards already marked and would miss the Champions League Final with one more05/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Bigger than Wembley and more convenient - why a revamped Old Trafford must stage the top games05/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Wenger's woeful eyesight is back for everybody to see04/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Barton hasn't learned his lesson - but neither have Newcastle 04/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Dirty dozen without a win should raise more questions for Aston Villa boss O'Neill04/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Sbragia's time is up, Sunderland need to make a change NOW04/05/09 HATCHET MAN: Stoke and Wolves can do better than Everton misfit Van der Meyde01/05/09 VIEW FULL ARCHIVE You could easily make a case for relegating the every one of the bottomeight  (with the possible exception of battlers Stoke) given how badthey are. Open the  trapdoor, few would miss them.[LNB][LNB] [LNB]
