Blackburn have agreed a fee with Olympiakos for the permanent transfer of Matt Derbyshire, who spent last season on loan at the Greek club, and the striker has now been given permission to discuss personal terms. The former England U21 striker's move was in danger of being priced out by Ewood Park chiefs who stunned the Greek double winners with a £5million asking fee to secure the permanent services of the loan star. While no financial details have been disclosed, it is understood the former non-league star, who originally cost Rovers just £200,000, will now cost the Champions League club an initial £3million in a four-year agreement. 'Blackburn Rovers have reached a verbal agreement with Olympiakos for the transfer of striker Matt Derbyshire,' read a statement on the club's official website. 'Matt has now been given permission to hold talks with the Greek club.' The 23-year old has established himself as a firm favourite with Olympiakos fans following his loan arrival in January, scoring eight goals in 13 games. The striker earned cult hero status after his man-of-the-match performance in the Greek Cup final against fierce city rivals AEK Athens. Introduced as a half-time substitute, with Olympiakos trailing 2-0, Derbyshire inspired a dramatic fightback with two goals - the second making it 3-3 in the last seconds of normal time - as his side went on to win a penalty shoot-out 15-14.
