GOODBYE GUIDE: The Premier League players getting ready to wave farewell to their clubs on Sunday

21 May 2009 07:35
So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu... Whatever way you cut it, there will be more than a few Barclays Premier League players saying goodbye to their clubs this Sunday. Look out for the tell-tale wave as the hint your heroes are destined for pastures new. Here Sportsmail's transfer expert SIMON JONES gives his wave rating on the players most likely to be saying 'Ciao!' to their fans for the last time this Sunday... Emmanuel Adebayor's body language indicates an exit EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR(Arsenal) Inter Milan, AC Milan or Chelsea. There will be no shortage of offers for the languid Togo international and Arsene Wenger has to decide whether to at least double his £13million summer transfer budget by sacrificing his main striker. Going by Adebayor's body language of late, he may prefer the change of scenery. Kolo Toure and William Gallas are thinking along the same lines. WAVE RATING 3/5 GARETH BARRY (Aston Villa) The last thing Barry wants is another summer of conjecture over his future but it won't be that straightforward. Villa will offer him a bumper new contract of around 60,000 a week while Liverpool will offer him the money and the chance to walk straight into a title-chasing team. Odds are Barry will choose the latter and Anfield gaffer Rafa Benitez will finally get his man. WAVE RATING 4/5 DIDIER DROGBA (Chelsea) Poor old Didier has been in and out of fashion on the King's Road this season under Big Phil and Golden Guus but his postmatch outburst against Barcelona may have just sealed his fate. He looks more likely to be taking a tumble in the San Siro next season though that will hinge on Chelsea ensuring they have a quality replacement lined up and may even depend on where Emmanuel Adebayor ends up. WAVE RATING 3/5 Xabi Alonso could finally leave Liverpool this summer XABI ALONSO (Liverpool) Many at Anfield would argue Alonso has been their player of the season even ahead of Messrs Gerrard and Torres. He seemed destined for Juventus last year but the collapse of Gareth Barry's proposed switch from Aston Villa meant Liverpool could not afford to lose him. However, Real Madrid's pursuit may change that this time around especially if Barry joins Liverpool too. WAVE RATING 4/5 CARLOS TEVEZ (Manchester United) The saga of the summer so far. Will it be Liverpool? Will it be Spurs? Will it be Manchester City? Que sera, sera. United may offer a deal but fans' favourite Tevez wants to play in the big games. He won't get too many of those at Tottenham or City but Liverpool is appealing. Trouble is they haven't got the financial muscle required unless they sell the majority of their fringe players. WAVE RATING 4/5 TUNCAY (Middlesbrough) The brilliant Turkish striker has done little harm to his reputation despite Boro's demise this season. Fenerbahce would like to take him back and Chelsea have shown interest too. He will lead a small exodus from the Riverside once their fate is sealed on Sunday. Stewart Downing's injury may delay his departure but Afonso Alves and Robert Huth will follow and not too many tears will be shed there. WAVE RATING 5/5 ROQUE SANTA CRUZ (Blackburn Rovers) Hemay be only in the stands but a regal wave of farewell will be expected from the Paraguayan. After an injury-blighted second half to the season, Blackburn will question why they fought to keep him in January if Manchester City fail to come back with the desired £20million offer. There will be other takers albeit with lesser bids. Tottenham and Arsenal remain interested. WAVE RATING 5/5 THE WHOLE TEAM (Newcastle United) Take your pick. If Newcastle go down, finances dictate everyone is available. Perhaps Steve Harper and Steven Taylor will determine it best to see out the storm of a campaign in the Championship but Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Sebastien Bassong will be off. Sadly for Mike Ashley there may be more bargains than a Sports World fire sale. WAVE RATING 5/5 PETER CROUCH (Portsmouth) The big striker is likely to have some big interest. Even Rafa Benitez might regret selling him, but Crouch wants to play regularly. Everton are admirers, but his wages may be too high. Newcastle, if they stay up, might want Crouch to lead the line. The on-going cash problems at Portsmouth mean several of their stars are vulnerable, not least Glen Johnson and Niko Kranjcar. Johnson, especially, will trigger much interest over the next few weeks. But watch for interest in Crouch. WAVE RATING 4/5 ANTONIO VALENCIA (Wigan) DaveWhelan makes no bones about the economics of football and when it'stime to cash in, it's time to cash in. Real Madrid have placed theiroffer - a £21.5m bid for the winger from Ecuador and that may be thebest offer Wigan get. Manchester United like Valencia and that is hispreference but his displays have left them unsure he is value formoney. WAVE RATING 5/5 DAVID BENTLEY (Tottenham Hotspur) A Mexican wave won't be out of place at Anfield on Sunday as Tottenham's players bid their farewells. Up to 12 of the squad could be on their way this summer and Bentley's bags are already packed. The only problem is there is no clear destination. Everton, Sunderland and possibly Aston Villa would be interested but Tottenham don't let their players go cheap. WAVE RATING 5/5 KENWYNE JONES (Sunderland) Probably regrets turning down Tottenham overtures in January after a miserable end to the season which could yet get even worse. His relationship with Djibril Cisse hasn't helped but the Frenchman will be gone too in the summer. Steed Malbranque and Kieran Richardson may follow suit but Jones will have the better offers in front of him. WAVE RATING 3/5
