Everton hit back after 'outrageous' banana claim by El Hadji Diouf

25 September 2009 00:32
El Hadji Diouf turned to face a section of the Everton crowd. His feet firmly planted in the grass. His eyes staring back at the supporters. It was a reckless and foolish confrontation, but now the Senegalese striker finds himself going head-to head with more than a handful of angry supporters. He has taken on a whole club and Everton are determined their good name will not be sullied. That they yesterday reacted with such fury to Diouf's allegations is testimony to the strength of feeling at a club determined to eradicate the racist shadows in its past. Everton once had a reputation as serial offenders but they are now leading the way in trying to drive racism out of football.
