Emerton remains confident

Blackburn midfielder Brett Emerton believes that the team will cope fine without the departed Roque Santa Cruz and Matt Derbyshire. The sale of the two strikers leaves Rovers a little thin on the ground up front with manager Sam Allardyce almost certain to add to his current front pairing of Jason Roberts and Benni McCarthy. Rovers do have Paul Gallagher waiting in the wings but following four loan spells in three seasons many expect the 24-year-old to be surplus to requirements at Ewood Park. Having only escaped relegation in the final month of last season many fear that Blackburn could be in for another season of toil if Allardyce does not bring in new blood but Emerton is confident there is already enough quality in the squad. "The squad will be full of confidence at the way we finished the season," he told The Sun. "It was European form - without the injured Roque and Derbyshire."
