Dunn on course for new deal

Sam Allardyce has admitted David Dunn is on course to earn a new deal with Blackburn if he continues his current impressive form. The attacking midfielder appears to have overcome the injury problems which have blighted him in the past and played a key role in Sunday's victory over local rivals Burnley. Dunn, who is out of contract at the end of the season, took his tally for the campaign to five and created another for Rovers as they triumphed 3-2 against the Clarets to climb to 12th in the table. Manager Allardyce has been impressed with the one-time England international and is delighted with the way he has forced himself into the first XI this season. "Dunny's goal was top quality and brought us right back into the game," he said. Terrific"The first thing we've had to do with him is make sure he is fit on a regular basis then make sure he knows what he needs to do in the team and on the training ground. "We've found a position for him to play just off the front striker and he's looking as good as I've seen him in a long time. Because he has performed so well in this role, I've not been able to pick one of my other three strikers. "He's doing a terrific job for us in there and has the sort of quality every team needs. "He'll be getting his agent to knock on my door at this rate and it's something we will deal with when the time is right." Huge successAnd Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen believes Dunn could even force his way into Fabio Capello's England squad with the World Cup in South Africa next summer on the horizon. Dunn's only cap to date came in a friendly against Portugal at Villa Park in September 2002 with his regular injury problems forcing him out of the reckoning ever since. Nelsen added: "He has got to be knocking on the English door the way he is playing. He has been a huge success for us and I hope he keeps doing it."
