Derbyshire's move to Greece in ruins as Rovers demand £5m for loan striker

Matt Derbyshire is in danger of being priced out of a permanent move to Olympiakos after Blackburn stunned the Greek double winners with a £5million asking price. Olympiacos coach Ernesto Valverde made it clear he was prepared to pay up to £3million for the England U21 striker. But, despite snapping him up for just £20,000 from non-League Great Harwood Town, Blackburn are holding out for £5m in a stance that could scupper Derbyshire's hopes of staying in Greece. The 23-year old still hopes a compromise can be found after establishing himself as a firm favourite at the Karaiskakis Stadium with a man-of-the-match performance in the Greek Cup final against fierce city rivals AEK Athens. Introduced as a half-time substitute, with Olympiakos trailing 2-0, he inspired a dramatic fightback with two goals - the second making it 3-3 in the last seconds of normal time - as his side went on to win a penalty shoot-out 15-14.
