Davies Defends Big Sam

Bolton's Kevin Davies has stuck up for Sam Allardyce after Danny Murphy's ridiculous outburst in which he said that three managers send their teams out to play dirty. Davies has worked under Allardyce when he was in charge at Boton, Big Sam signed the player and brought him to the Reebok. Fulham midfielder Murphy claimed the likes of Allardyce, Stoke’s Tony Pulis and Wolves’ Mick McCarthy pump up their players before the game and then the bad fouls come naturally. Davies was asked if Allardyce sent  Bolton players to go out and kick opponents, Davies told the Daily Mail: “Not at all. Sam never once said, ‘Go out and start kicking people’. It’s a matter of putting teams under pressure, getting tight, denying space and closing them down.  “The dirty tag has been thrown at Bolton a few times, but if anything we’re too honest. We’ve been on the receiving end of bad tackles as well, but our lads get up and get on with the game. “Making life horrible for Arsenal and other opponents is getting in their faces, not foul play. When you play top teams, you do what you can to win.”
