David Goodwillie in Blackburn talks

Blackburn bound: Striker David Goodwillie[LNB]David Goodwillie will complete his ?2.8million move to Blackburn Rovers leaving Rangers boss Ally McCoist nursing the loss of another prime  transfer target after they failed with a last-ditch bid.[LNB]United chairman Stephen Thompson confirmed: 'The clubs have agreed a fee between us, so David and his representatives are speaking to Blackburn Rovers. [LNB]'Hopefully, things will all be concluded on Monday.'[LNB]On a day of bid and counter-bids, striker Goodwillie finally  travelled south after Blackburn agreed to pay United's asking price of ?2million up front plus add-ons that could put another ?800,000 on the deal.[LNB]Rangers, having cheekily tried to land the 22-year-old by initially offering half of the fee demanded, went back in with a package totalling over ?2m. [LNB]That was after Ibrox owner Craig Whyte, fully aware of the figure the Ewood Park side had tabled, offered ?1.6m, plus another ?600,000 in add-ons.[LNB]However, Goodwillie has opted to head south and his deal worth in excess of ?1m-a-year will be rubber-stamped when he passes a medical.[LNB] Something to shout about: Kean has finally got his man[LNB]Blackburn mananger Steve Kean and his directors were travelling back from Hong Kong on Sunday night, where the team have been competing in the Asia Cup, and they will meet Goodwillie for the first time. [LNB]United boss Peter Houston, whose side beat Hearts 1-0 at Tynecastle yesterday without the departing striker, praised  Thompson for his handling of the deal, saying:  'The chairman had a number in mind. Clubs tried to come in way below that figure. [LNB]'Let's be honest, David is worth ?2million. And the chairman always had that figure in his mind. [LNB]'I spoke briefly to the chairman and he said the deal is almost there and that it could happen tomorrow. I don't think it will happen before then, but it's getting there.[LNB]'Without a doubt, Blackburn Rovers have got a bargain. If David had been playing for a team in the Championship, rather than the SPL, a Premiership club would have paid an awful lot more for him.[LNB]'But the SPL don't get a lot of money from English clubs. If our chairman has got what he was looking for, it will help Dundee United.'[LNB] Bitter blow: McCoist failed with a last minute bid for the striker[LNB]However, Houston is aware there will be no cash for himself to splash on new players.[LNB]He explained: 'I don't know what I will get to spend but I won't be able to buy any players. [LNB]'I will get some money for salaries and try to bring in players. I had a couple lined up but missed out on them.[LNB]'Hopefully, we can now add a couple to add strength and depth to our squad because, at the moment, we are a bit light.[LNB]'We have names of players agents throw names at you and I might bring in a striker on trial next week. [LNB]'I know he is a goal scorer and he looks a decent player but I still want to have a closer look.' [LNB] Farewell: United manager Houston will be looking to new recruits following Goodwillie's departure[LNB]Having advised Goodwillie to pick the Premiership over the Old Firm goldfish bowl, Houston admitted: 'Being totally honest, I don't know if David will play every week in the Premiership. But that won't be my decision, that's up to Steve Kean.[LNB]'David will become a Premiership player in due time. It might take him a while to get used to it but he has the talent to play there regularly in the near future.[LNB]'The reason I said it wouldn't be right for David to play in Glasgow was because of his off-field problems. [LNB]'In normal circumstances, given a choice between Rangers and  Blackburn Rovers, there is only one decision I would make because Rangers are a bigger club. [LNB]'The only reason David should get out of the road is due to the problems he has had away from football.'[LNB] CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE FANTASY FOOTBALL GAMEBlackburn 3 Kitchee 0: Rovers return home after comfortable victoryRovers Return pays off! ?2.8m Goodwillie Blackburn-bound as United cash inBlackburn make first move in transfer market as Petrovic closes in on moveAll the latest Blackburn news, features and opinion [LNB]
