City set to lodge £15m Santa Cruz bid

Mark Hughes has been keen to take the Paraguay striker to Eastlands ever since defecting from Blackburn last summer, and has already failed with four bids over the past 12 months. The Welshman had previously hinted he had ended his interest in Santa Cruz but it is now reported he will make one final offer for the 27-year-old. It will be well below the £20million release clause his contract and even the £18million bid made in January, but Rovers are finally prepared to let Santa Cruz leave the club and Hughes is hoping to complete a deal next week, according to the Lancashire Telegraph. That would seriously boost Sam Allardyce's own transfer kitty for the summer but it is understood he will not raid his former club Newcastle for signings. Michael Owen, Joey Barton, Kevin Nolan, Alan Smith and Ryan Taylor have all been linked with moves to Ewood Park but Allardyce is believed to be looking elsewhere to strengthen.
