Chelsea v Blackburn preview

23 October 2009 11:25
Chelsea will aim to banish the memory of last weekend's Premier League setback when they welcome Blackburn Rovers to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Blues suffered an away defeat to an in-form Aston Villa side last Saturday, just two games after being humbled by Wigan at the DW Stadium. Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti will therefore be keen for his side, who downed Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, to demonstrate they remain serious contenders for Manchester United's league crown. But one-time Premier League champions Blackburn have their own concerns and will be keen to improve on their last visit to London, a 6-2 hammering at Arsenal, as they bid to end inconsistent form. Rovers, though, will be on a high after a win over local rivals Burnley in their last outing, with on-loan Chelsea youngster Franco Di Santo among the goalscorers. Drogba returnChelsea are expected to be boosted by the return of star striker Didier Drogba, who is having an excellent season but sat out the win over Atletico because of his European suspension. Right-back Jose Bosingwa is out due to the knee injury which meant that the Portugal international also sat out in midweek, while John Obi Mikel remains a doubt. Left-back Ashley Cole expects to be fit despite suffering a cut leg in the victory against Atletico. Blackburn will be without Di Santo due to a clause in his loan which prevents him from playing against parent club Chelsea. Meanwhile, Vince Grella and Steven Reid are doubtful for boss Sam Allardyce due to thigh and Achilles injuries, respectively. Possible starting XIsChelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Carvalho, A Cole, Lampard, Essien, Malouda, Deco, Drogba, Anelka. Blackburn: Robinson, Jacobsen, Samba, Nelsen, Chimbonda, Nzonzi, Andrews, Diouf, Dunn, Pedersen, Roberts.
