Charles Sale: Dennis Wise and sidekick Tony Jimenez on the prowl again

31 October 2009 00:04
Football double act Tony Jiminez and Dennis Wise, hated on Tynesidefor their role in the Newcastle fiasco, have since become favouredadvisers for a Middle East tycoon stalking the English leagues fortakeover possibilities.[LNB]Mohammed Al Hashimi, executive chairman of diversified Dubaiinvestment group Zabeel, has twice tried to buy Charlton beforewithdrawing at the last moment with a deal in place.[LNB]His first bid in 2008 also involved property developer Jiminez, ludicrously employed by Newcastle on the player recruitment frontbefore resigning to move to Charlton with Hashimi. [LNB] The happy couple: Jimenez (second left) and Wise (second right)[LNB]But a proposed £50m takeover offer disappeared under pressure fromthe ruling family of Dubai when the global economic crisis was at itsheight.[LNB]   More from Charles Sale... Charles Sale: Peter Harrison the football agent at the centre of BBC Panorama bungs documentary set for date with Liverpool civil court 29/10/09 CHARLES SALE: £1m sponsorship boost for England's 2018 World Cup bid28/10/09 CHARLES SALE: FA desperate to bring in cup cash27/10/09 Manchester United board left as sitting targets in the box seats at Anfield26/10/09 Charles Sale: Newcastle owner Mike Ashley dithers over £80m sale to Barry Moat25/10/09 CHARLES SALE: £160k-a-week Chelsea skipper John Terry gets a paper round23/10/09 Arsenal share war: Billionaires Alisher Usmanov and Stan Kroenke set for takeover battle23/10/09 Arsenal WILL end this season with a trophy, insists birthday boy Wenger22/10/09 VIEW FULL ARCHIVE It's understood Hashimi was also behind a recent attempt to buyCharlton, especially when it emerged that a mystery Middle Easternbusinessman's takeover terms included the employment of Wise andJiminez. [LNB]This latest Hashimi bid hit the buffers because proof of funds nevermaterialised and the backlash from fans over the potential arrival atthe Valley of the terrible two.[LNB]Both will have a difficult job restoring their football credibilityafter the hapless Newcastle operation was laid bare by the damningtribunal report of former manager Kevin Keegan's successful claimagainst the club.[LNB]Hashimi, who ironically considered buying Newcastle before turningto Charlton, is understood to be looking now at QPR and West Ham. Andthe one certainty is that Wise and Jiminez will be part of the package.[LNB] Jeffery Archer, who has been known to oversell his debatable achievements as a sprinter, no doubt saw himself as the best possible auctioneer for the British Olympic Association's fund-raising Gold Ball at the Natural History Museum on Thursday night. [LNB]However, the disgraced Tory peer seemed to have no knowledge of global star Robbie Williams as he kept referring to a lot offering a box at the O2 Arena to watch Robbie in concert as being an opportunity to see American actor Robin Williams.[LNB] [LNB]The ESPN live match between Manchester United and Blackburn will be the first opportunity for the station's pitchline reporter Rebecca Lowe to interview Sir Alex Ferguson since his meltdown remarks to her about referee Alan Wiley being unfit. It remains to be seen if the ballsy Rebecca deems today's match official Phil Dowd's performance worthy of a comment from Sir Alex and whether he bites again.[LNB]The BBC, who are paying nothing apart from programme costs for the return of the Boat Race from ITV next year, are putting forward rising commentator Andrew Cotter and presenter Clare Balding as their dream team in the production tenders taking place.[LNB] Owen still on the insideOwen Hargreaves, the Manchester United and England midfielder, has not played a competitive match since September 21, 2008, due to chronic knee injuries. [LNB]But England's stand-out performer in the last World Cup has kept his place on the players' negotiating committee alongside international regulars John Terry, Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry.[LNB] [LNB]The amateur blazers who make up the FA's national game committee have set an admirable belt-tightening example during the £100m financial crisis, with no TV deal to replace Setanta or FA Cup sponsorship after E.ON, by cancelling their Christmas lunch. It will be intriguing to see if other committees, including the main FA board who always have a sumptuous Christmas feast, do the same.[LNB] [LNB]England's 2018 World Cup bid team have agreed a deal with the Qatar football authorities, who are bidding for the 2022 tournament, ahead of the Brazil friendly in Doha on November 14 that neither campaign will attempt to advertise inside the stadium, including on perimeter boards. But that doesn't prevent Qatar making other promotional plans in their own country.[LNB]England will go some way to pacifying Fergie and other managers by flying straight back after the Saturday match, but Brazil are cashing in further in the Middle East by going to Oman for another international the following Tuesday.[LNB] [LNB]
