13 December 2010 14:34
It will be no consolation to Sam Allardyce that the goal Bolton scored to ruin his return to the Reebok came straight out of the manual he made famous there.[LNB]Less than 50 seconds after Mame Biram Diouf had cancelled out Fabrice Muamba's opener, Sam Ricketts launched the ball.[LNB]Kevin Davies rose above Ryan Nelsen to knock it on and Stuart Holden surged between two defenders to volley an 88th-minute winner.[LNB] Pile on! Paul Robinson (airborne) leaps towards his celebrating team-mates after Bolton's first[LNB] [LNB]Big Sam berated his players for 'defending like a bunch of old ladies' after his first loss to Bolton since leaving in 2007. Holden's goal capped a fine finale to a not great Lancashire derby.[LNB]Bolton boss Owen Coyle dropped Muamba to the bench, thinking Mark Davies deserved to keep his place. [LNB]But Davies was sent off after 56 minutes for his second bookable offence. He had been shown a yellow card for a studs-up challenge on Martin Olsson before he thrust his forearm into the face of Phil Jones in a jump.[LNB]Both managers agreed that opened up the game. Blackburn became less cautious, giving Bolton the space to be more creative, and Coyle sent on Muamba for Lee Chung-yong.[LNB] Off day: Davies (far right) looks shocked to be shown a red card for a second bookable offence[LNB] [LNB]Muamba needed just nine minutes toscore. Nelsen's headed clearance went straight to Muamba, who checkedinside and drilled home a low shot.[LNB]Allardyce insisted Zat Knight hadhandled from a corner at the other end moments earlier and alsoquestioned whether the big Bolton defender could have been sent off inthe first half for a clumsy challenge on Jason Roberts.[LNB]Roberts combined well with JuniorHoilett to set up Blackburn's 87th-minute equaliser, Mame Dioufproviding a lovely finish. But Allardyce's touchline celebration waspremature.[LNB]The Blackburn manager said: 'Holdenwas the farthest player from that ball when Kevin Davies headed it andnone of our defenders came in. It was diabolical defending.'[LNB]It was further proof that Coyle has brought a finer edge to Bolton without compromising that Allardyce manual too much.
