Blackburn want Eidur Gudjohnsen to replace Roque Santa Cruz

Despite bullish noises from Blackburn, Allardyce is resigned to the fact that he will lose Santa Cruz before the end of the transfer window, with City willing to match Blackburn's ambitious valuation of the player.[LNB]Allardyce spoke last week about the £40 million cost of relegation though the clubs are close to a figure of around £18 million.[LNB]The Blackburn manager, however, is still unwilling to sanction the deal until he is sure he has a replacement lined up and has turned his attentions to former Chelsea striker Gudjohnsen.[LNB]The Icelander is nothing other than a squad member at the Nou Camp with Thierry Henry, Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto'o ahead of him in Barcelona's pecking order and at 30, Gudjohnsen could be persuaded that he needs regular football for the remainder of his career.[LNB]He did feature in a recent Spanish cup match against Atletico Madrid last week, a game in which he scored.[LNB]Allardyce worked with Gudjohnsen for a season at Bolton and tried to sign him during his brief tenure at Newcastle United and rates the forward highly.[LNB]Should a deal be struck Blackburn would expect to pay no more than £2 million leaving Allardyce much of the Santa Cruz fee to spend in strengthening other areas of the squad he inherited from Paul Ince.[LNB]
