Defensive poser for Rovers

Blackburn could be forced into a defensive reshuffle against Scunthorpe in the Capital One Cup.

Matt Kilgallon came off at half-time in the Championship opener against Cardiff with a back spasm, boss Gary Bowyer later revealing he could be okay for midweek, though.

However, Tommy Spurr looks set to miss out once more, with a groin problem sustained last Thursday likely to keep him sidelined for two to three weeks.

Jason Lowe may have to fill in at full-back while young central defender Jack O'Connell could be in the squad. Chris Brown (knee) is behind in his pre-season preparations but is training and could feature.

Scunthorpe will be without midfielder David Syers and defender Marcus Williams for the first-round tie.

Syers sustained a knee injury in the Iron's opening-day defeat at Swindon and is waiting to learn the full extent of the damage, while Williams begins a three-match ban after being shown a straight red card at the County Ground.

Boss Russ Wilcox has several options to fill the gap left by Syers and player/coach Andy Dawson is expected to step in for Williams at right-back.

Centre-half David Mirfin remains sidelined following summer knee surgery and Wilcox must decide whether to retain Miguel Llera alongside Niall Canavan at the heart of defence or hand Miles Addison his debut.
