Goulan, who trained with Middlesbrough in his youth, is available on a free having shunned advances in France in favour of a move to England.

The 6ft4inch 22-year-old quit Ligue 1 side Le Mans at the end of last season and has been holding out for an offer from a Premier League club.

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce endured a tough time in the transfer window, snapping up only loans and freebies, and sees Goulan as a potential starter in a team lacking much depth.
