Blackburn Rovers V Sunderland Match Preview

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce will be keen to see his out-of-form side grind out a victory against Sunderland on Monday afternoon.

Rovers' home form is keeping them out of serious trouble and another success would edge them away from the relegation zone for another week.

Rovers have endured much misery on their travels this term and thankfully for Allardyce, the wins are coming in Lancashire.

They have picked up 15 points from a possible 27 at Ewood Park - although they did take a point from a Boxing Day derby trip to Wigan Athletic.

Midfield man Brett Emerton is struggling to overcome a groin injury and colleague David Dunn is still troubled by a calf strain.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce could be without Bolo Zenden (hamstring) with Anton Ferdinand (ankle) and Craig Gordon (broken arm) likely to be missing until the new year.

Defender Michael Turner will miss the second of four games for his suspension. He was dismissed at the end of the 4-3 loss at Manchester City on December 19 following a stray elbow which caught England midfielder Gareth Barry.

The Black Cats' excellent start to the campaign is threatening to become undone after their recent poor form.

Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones will be required to to fire them out of their poor streak at Ewood Park should the latter shake off a calf niggle.

Last season's meeting saw Blackburn slump to a 2-1 defeat at Ewood Park.

Chris Samba jumped high to head over goalkeeper Marton Fulop to put the hosts in front right on half-time before a storming fightback sealed the victory for the visitors.

Jones scored a clever overhead kick soon after the re-start before Frenchman Djibril Cisse lobbed Paul Robinson to grab the win.

Midfielder Lee Cattermole missed the 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday with a hamstring strain and is rated doubtful alongside Kieran Richardson (calf).
