As well as the unfortunate Morten Gamst Pedersen, this was one in the eye for those that have doubted Everton's European hopes.[LNB]Mikel Arteta scored from the spot with just three minutes gone to take his tally to five goals in five matches.[LNB] Related ArticlesPremier League actionFootball League ups and downsWho is the most improved?Portsmouth 'do not deserve' to win appealPremier League tablePremier League fixturesBut the Spaniard was lucky to stay on the field after jabbing a finger into the corner of Pedersen's eye shortly after but Steven Nzonzi looked to have snatched a point with a wonderful long-range strike to pull Blackburn Rovers level.[LNB]However, Yakubu came off the bench and pulled Everton ahead only for another substitute Jason Roberts to drive in another equaliser only for Tim Cahill to touch in from Yakubu's cross in the final minute.[LNB]David Moyes had questioned his team's cutting edge after three straight draws, which Arteta missed with a groin problem, but the Spaniard marked his return to the team with a goal in just the fourth minute.[LNB] From Diniyar Bilyaletdinov's deep cross from the left, Arteta took a touch and looked set to cut inside only to go over Ryan Nelsen's desperate lunge.[LNB]Louis Saha made vague attempts to grab the ball but those claims were ignored by Arteta, who placed the penalty into the corner of the net to continue his prolific run.[LNB]Shortly after, Arteta jabbed his finger into Pedersen's eye as the pair argued. He was shown only a yellow card by referee Andre Marriner, as for some reason was Pedersen, meaning he will not face further censure from the Football Association and will be available for the final three matches of the campaign.[LNB]Everton continued to defend resolutely from Pedersen's long throw and after the interval they should have put the game beyond their hosts when Tim Cahill glanced over from Tony Hibbert's cross and Leighton Baines cracked a shot against the post.[LNB]Even after Steven Nzonzi, skipped around Arteta and arrowed a drive into the top corner from distance, Nigerian striker Yakubu came on to head in after Victor Anichebe flicked on from Baines' long throw.[LNB]But their lead was short-lived as Nikola Kalinic lobbed over the top and Roberts swept the ball into the corner from just outside the area.[LNB]Still though, there was life in Everton and Yakubu burst into the area, drawing Paul Robinson out, and squared for Cahill to tap in.[LNB]
