Blackburn boss Allardyce eyes quick Rovers return for Samba and McCarthy

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce is confident key players Chris Samba and Benni McCarthy will be fit for next weekend's visit of Portsmouth.   The pair were both forced off in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Manchester City but Allardyce does not believe either will be out for long.   Rovers are desperately short of strikers with Jason Roberts and Roque Santa Cruz still sidelined and centre-back Samba has been playing as a makeshift centre-forward in recent weeks alongside McCarthy.   Optimistic: Rovers boss Allardyce has high hopes for Samba and McCarthy 'They are knocks more than serious injuries,' said Allardyce. 'Benni kicked the bottom of somebody's boot and Chris felt something on the bridge of his foot.   'Rather than continue to run around and get more bleeding in that area and make the bruising more severe than it is we brought them off.' Blackburn are seven points clear of the relegation zone with three matches to go and one more win should secure their Barclays Premier League status for another year.
