Big Sam staying positive

Sam Allardyce is staying positive, despite Blackburn's failure to win in the Premier League so far this season. Rovers suffered back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Sunderland before claiming their first point of the campaign in the goalless draw with West Ham. But the Rovers boss is not too downhearted as he believes his side is playing well. Allardyce said: "We have to believe the performances are good enough. "People would think that we were struggling in the first three games with one point but performance-wise we are not, although results-wise we are." Allardyce was pleased with his side's first clean sheet of the season against the Hammers. While aiming to continue this, he also wants his side to convert more of their chances after netting just once this term - Gael Givet's strike against the Black Cats. He said: "The basis for starting to turn your season around comes from clean sheets. "We are not going to be a free-scoring team, although we can create our fair share of chances, and teams like ours are very rarely free-scoring. "That is three games with lots of chances and only one goal - there lies the key area for us to continue to work on and hopefully we turn it around very quickly." Some of the fans at Ewood Park became frustrated by Rovers' inability to carve out chances at times during Saturday's match. But Allardyce has called for understanding from fans, saying: "We have to work out the balance of play and we worked it out right against West Ham. "We played a slower, more patient game unlike we would normally play. "From an attacking point of view, while it started slowly, we built up the momentum and it got better and better. "I thought it was a very accomplished performance by the players to be honest. "The frustration for the fans is that they want to see us win and we didn't. "We did enough, albeit in a more patient way. If that is how we need to win it then that is how it has to be sometimes."
