Big Sam: Rovers can beat the drop

Rovers went into Wednesday's game at at Craven Cottage third from bottom and harbouring serious relegation worries, while victory would have put the hosts within touching distance of the European places. But despite a poor start - calamitous defending from Ryan Nelsen and Christopher Samba gifted Clint Dempsey a second-minute opener - Allardyce's side were able to emerge with three points. El-Hadji Diouf tapped home the equaliser after 69 minutes, a goal that is sure to reopen the debate over when a player is active in an offside position, before Jason Roberts spun the lightweight Tony Kallio five minutes from time to lash home the winner. While Allardyce accepts that relegation remains a genuine concern he is also convinced that his players are in good enough form to edge past their rivals for the drop. "That's two defeats now in 11 games since I've been here and we've had two away wins on the bounce - that shows we're are gathering enough points to get us out of trouble," said the former Bolton and Newcastle boss. "It's important the results and the form keep coming. As long as we are carrying on in that vein, the sooner we can try and get to safety. "Gifting that goal in the first half made it very difficult for us but games are 95 minutes now and at the end of that 95 minutes it said, Fulham 1 Blackburn 2. "That's a result I feel we thoroughly deserved. We're a team in good form on the way up rather than some of the teams around us who are in poor form and sliding down." Allardyce reserved special praise for Stephen Warnock, a natural left-back who has revelled in a central midfield role in recent weeks. He hit the post with a superb individual effort after 17 minutes and twice drew fine saves from Mark Schwarzer to help bring Rovers back into the game against Fulham. "Stephen has been our driving force," Allardyce added. "He's been a revelation since we put him infield. The only thing missing for him was a well-deserved goal which he could have got today if not for a combination of Mark Schwarzer and the post. "His performances drive the whole team at the moment but it doesn't matter who scores as long we get the victory and we did that."
