Big Sam reveals fitness worries

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that a number of his players are not in peak physical condition. South African striker Benni McCarthy has previously been advised to improve his fitness levels if he wants to enjoy a long career. But Allardyce is also concerned about his squad in general, as he knows there is a fine line between success and failure with Rovers currently involved in a relegation battle. He feels several players may be slightly out of shape and has called for more discipline. "It isn't just Benni who has to drop body fat," Allardyce said in The Sun. "We have different players with different metabolisms. "It's about controlling the sort of foods they eat and when they eat. "We are more interested in muscle bulk than fat. Some people may look at a player and think he is overweight, but he is not. "The hard thing is that most players today, like most kids, are brought up on sugars they shouldn't be - and those sugars are addictive." McCarthy has had few starting opportunities in recent weeks but Allardyce is still confident he can make in impact during the rest of the season. He said: "Benni could be a little better. We need to get a little bit more fat off so he's more mobile."
