Big Sam 'desperate' for home win

After starting his managerial reign with Rovers by claiming seven points from his first three home matches, Blackburn have managed only three points from a possible 12 since then. You have to go back to January 17 - a 3-0 triumph over Newcastle - for the club's last league victory in front of their own fans. Allardyce knows it is a situation that needs urgently addressing, starting with Saturday's early-afternoon visit of Spurs. With Rovers two points and one place above the relegation zone, Allardyce added: "It's a game we don't have to win but certainly we don't want to lose. "If we draw then it is another point towards the total but it's one we really want to try and win if we can. "It is becoming desperate because we haven't won at Ewood since the game with Newcastle, although we could have won many games since then. "The reverse of that is we've only lost one here against a very good Aston Villa side on the day. "So our home form and performances have been very good but unfortunately the results haven't matched the performances. "What we have to do now is marry the two together tomorrow against Spurs." Allardyce believes Blackburn are one of nine sides still fighting against the drop, given Spurs and Manchester City appear to be safe, sitting in 11th and 10th respectively with 38 points. Allardyce is convinced the final few weeks of the season will be a swings-and-roundabouts affair before the bottom three are finally relegated. "I think everybody will be looking at everyone else's fixtures," added Allardyce. "There will be changes up and down, to and fro between now and the last game of the season because where it is set now, doesn't mean to say it will stay that way. "We've seen Manchester United lose two games on the trot at the top of the league, which was totally unexpected, and all of a sudden Liverpool are now within one point. "Hopefully it is us that goes on a two-game streak, a winning one, to lift us out of the relegation zone. "That is what we are aimed and focused on doing, so we really have no concern about the other sides. It is about ourselves trying to win first. "If we then want to rush and see what has happened to the other sides after that, then that is okay. "But let's make sure we get the three points first and not have to worry about the fact we haven't, and hope that others have lost or drawn." Allardyce, meanwhile, has confirmed striker Roque Santa Cruz is to see a specialist next week if he fails to show signs of a recovery from a knee tendon injury. The Paraguay international misses a fifth successive game, with Allardyce explaining: "His injury is a concern. "If there is no significant improvement next week then we will have to do a little bit more investigating by going to see the appropriate specialist and see where we lie." It is the same situation with midfielder David Dunn, who has been out of action for three weeks with an Achilles problem. "David has had a recurrence of a slight Achilles injury," added Allardyce. "It hasn't moved away, so we have to investigate a little more to find out the extent of the damage, so that's a big disappointment." Blackburn 13/8, Tottenham 17/10, Draw 9/4
