Best injury blow rocks Rovers

Blackburn have suffered a huge injury blow following the news striker Leon Best is set for six months on the sidelines.

The Republic of Ireland international, a £3million summer signing from Newcastle, was stretchered off before half-time during the 2-1 friendly victory over AEK Athens at Fleetwood on Sunday and scans have confirmed anterior cruciate ligament damage.

The 25-year-old had earlier put Rovers 2-0 ahead, adding to Nuno Gomes' opener with a fine individual effort.

Best is one of boss Steve Kean's flagship summer signings as Blackburn seek to gain an immediate return to the Barclays Premier League.

Now the Scot faces the prospect of heading into the forthcoming npower Championship campaign with Gomes and David Goodwillie as his only senior strikers.

Last season's top scorer Yakubu Aiyegbeni left Ewood Park to join Chinese outfit Guangzhou R&F earlier this month.
