The Rovers boss revealed the 25-year-old was one of his targets to replace striker Roque Santa Cruz after the Paraguayan signed for Manchester City. However, because of a lack of cash, Big Sam was forced to look elsewhere as Bent signed for Sunderland and has bagged two goals in two Premier League games for the Black Cats. "We knew Spurs wanted to move Darren (Bent) on but we were financially unable to meet demands and moved on ourselves," Allardyce told the Daily Star. On Rovers' lack of firepower upfront, he added: "It's concerning we haven't scored in the last three games."
