Andrews: We're hell-bent on victory

Giovanni Trapattoni's men always knew the second leg of their qualification play-off at the Stade de France on Wednesday was going to test their resolve to the full, but Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Croke Park denied them the positive result with which they hoped to arrive.[LNB]Now they have no alternative but to claim a rare victory over a major side on foreign soil to realise their dreams of making it to South Africa next year.[LNB]Asked about their dashed hopes of laying a foundation in Dublin, Andrews replied: "That was certainly Plan A, but we have moved on to Plan B now where we have got to go to Paris and win.[LNB]"The main thing now is to keep a clean sheet - I don't think we will be going gung-ho in terms of throwing everything at the French team in the first half, certainly.[LNB]"We know we have got the players to score a goal. If we win 1-0 over there, then obviously, it's job done. It goes to extra-time and we would be happy with that."[LNB]Ireland would indeed be happy with that although they will have to summon up more than they managed at Croke Park if they are to derail France's charge towards the finals.[LNB]Nicolas Anelka's goal, which came when the helpless Sean St Ledger deflected his 72nd-minute shot past Shay Given, was all that divided the teams on the scoresheet.[LNB]However, a powerful second-half display by Raymond Domenech's men might have yielded greater reward and the Irish can expect more of the same in Paris.[LNB]To add further spice, Andrews was furious with comments made by Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra after the final whistle in Dublin, and their difference of opinion sparked something of a melee on the pitch.[LNB]But the Blackburn man insists he and his team-mates will need no further encouragement other than the prize they have been chasing since September last year.[LNB]Andrews, who diplomatically declined to reveal exactly what had so offended him, said: "If we needed any more motivation other than getting to the World Cup there would be something wrong with us.[LNB]"It's nothing. The lads are fully aware of what he said, but we don't really need extra motivation.[LNB]"We are hell-bent on getting to this World Cup and it is certainly not over.[LNB]"I don't want to say exactly what he said. He knows what he said," he told the Belfast Telegraph.[LNB]"It was a disrespectful comment which probably typifies them, to be honest. [LNB]"There was a bit of niggle in the game, anyway, but that's just football and it happens.[LNB]"When the final whistle went, I saw him walking towards me and I thought he was going to shake my hand.[LNB]"And he made a remark and, to be fair, I lost my head a little bit."[LNB][LNB] France v Republic of Ireland To Qualify: Ireland 7/1
