Allardyce plans summer business

Sam Allardyce is hoping to freshen up his Blackburn Rovers squad this summer. The Ewood Park outfit found themselves embroiled in a relegation battle for much of last season and are keen to avoid a repeat in 2009/10. New recruits are therefore essential, especially as a number of players will be heading for the exit over the course of the next few weeks. Allardyce is keen to start putting plans in place as quickly as possible and is already planning a triple raid on French outfit Marseille. The Rovers boss is keen to turn centre-back Gael Givet's loan move into a permanent deal, while he is also tracking Argentine defender Renato Civelli. A further swoop on Stade Velodrome could also see him land Cameroon international Modeste M'Bami, with the midfielder set to become a free agent this summer. The African ace has already confirmed Rovers are interested in securing his services, with Allardyce admitting he has stepped up his hunt for new signings. "The first thing we need to do is to get the likes of Roque Santa Cruz, Steven Reid, Brett Emerton, Ryan Nelsen and David Dunn fit," he told the club's official website. "That is a lot of very good, very experienced Premier League players that have been missing for a long time here. "That means the rest of them have stepped up to the mark and done the business, so adding those players at the start of next season is going to make us stronger, and the additions to those have to be at the top level if we can get them. "As difficult as that will be, and it will be difficult, we have to try and do that with a bit younger and a bit more vibrant players to bolster the squad for next season."
