Vital win pleases Bruce
28 Oct 2007 - 12:45:41
Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce believes his side have given themselves a great chance of avoiding relegation after coming from behind to beat Wigan Athletic 3-2 on Saturday.
Olivier Kapo grabbed a brace against the Latics in what Bruce had targeted as a must-win match.
"I'm glad to get that win because October is a bad month for me," he said.
"I was sacked as manager of Huddersfield Town in October and there were people questioning whether I should stay this time last year.
"But that was a vital win. I said at half-time that if we're going to stay in the Premier League, we have to beat the teams around us and I expect Wigan to be one of those.
"We've now beaten Wigan, Derby and Bolton and were a minute away from beating Sunderland.
"It's got us up to 11 points and we've got an outstanding chance of staying in this division."
