Upson tipped to leave

Birmingham City co-owner David Sullivan expects Matthew Upson will leave St Andrew's when the transfer window reopens in January.

Upson has been linked with moves to Portsmouth, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur recently, and Sullivan has predicted that the 27-year-old defender will soon get his wish to return to the Premiership.

"There will be some players leaving in January," Sullivan told The Daily Mirror.

"Matthew Upson is a great player, but he wants to go to a bigger club."

The former Arsenal defender has won seven England caps, but has not represented his country for two years since he came on as a substitute in the friendly international defeat to Spain.
