Surgery rules out O'Connor

Birmingham City striker Garry O'Connor has been ruled out for up to eight weeks following a groin operation.

The Scotland striker was injured in the warm-up before the Championship clash at QPR in late October, but the Blues were initially hoping to avoid the need for surgery.

"We have taken our time and consulted specialists on this matter as it was initially thought that rehab alone would cure the problem," manager Alex McLeish told the club's official website.

"However, the injury has been niggling Garry and it was decided that he should have the operation.

"We will now put Garry through his rehabilitation and look forward to having him fit and available for selection again."
