Sunderland could not survive captain Lee Cattermole's first-half sending off as Birmingham mounted a battling late comeback at the Stadium of Light.Darren Bent converted a dubious 22nd-minute penalty but Cattermole deserved to go after two yellow cards. Birmingham full-back Stephen Carr looped a header into his own goal after half-time to put the hosts in control.
