Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce has admitted the controversial St Andrew's pitch is a "disaster area" and has revealed that it will be dug up and re-laid in the summer.
City paid £100,000 to have their pitch re-laid in January, but the Championship promotion-hopefuls remain troubled by a poor surface and ahead of Friday's clash with Derby County have installed inflatable covers in an attempt to dry it out.
"A lot has been said and written about the pitch and it is a disaster area for us," admitted Bruce.
"We've done everything we possibly can as a club to make sure it is right but we are struggling.
"I think it has been a disadvantage to us because, when you are used to playing on a rubbish pitch, you do become a bit wary of it.
"It will have to be re-laid in the summer. It is a shame because only a couple of years ago it was the best pitch in the league."
